The
British Alpine Race Academy was established in September 2004. It's aim,
to provide the best quality race training that is available to the British
Alpine racer. It is a member of the three UK governing bodies Snowsport
England, Snowsport Scotland and Snowsport Wales. It has attracted Alpine
Athletes both children and junior racers, from as far away as Australia
and now opens its doors as an International Academy.
The academy is based in specially chosen premises in the middle of Austria's
greatest ski paradise - SKI AMADE.. The town is a small but safe environment,
that offers little distraction from the focus of training. Its great for
those that may not have traveled much before.
Nearby is the home of the world famous Atomic Ski Manufacturer and the
equally famous ski racer nicknamed the Herminator. In fact it was nearby
that a car hit the Herminator's motorcycle, throwing him into a ditch,
and nearly ending his career. Herman Maier's father still runs his ski
school in Flachau, which is only 5 minutes away.
Location,
Location, Location is the popular property buzz word. Well as far as alpine
race training goes, this also applies here. The academy is in the racing
centre of the world's top alpine racing country. Many of the top Austrian
racers have come from this part of Austria. Herman Maier regularly trains
at Obertauern, just 15 minutes from the academy. The world famous Olympic
Fitness Centre is also based in Obertauern. The international resort of
Schladming is just 10 minutes away. The academy is at the heart of the
Skialliance Amade. The entire area can be reached easily in just a few
minutes by car or ski bus. This means that using the Amade-Skipass , visitors
have around 860 kilometres of piste and more than 270 lift facilities
between and within the ski regions.
Who
we are
We are parents of young racers ourselves, who have time and again been
frustrated with seeing British children trying to compete on the international
stage, whilst not being able to spend enough time training on snow, to
be able to compete on anywhere near an equal level.
Our young racers struggle to find time for school work, fitness and frequent
travel abroad to train on snow. They never quite have the confidence that
comes with time spent on snow to be able to give their best efforts when
competing in a race. They can be fatigued with constant travel by plane
or mini bus, even before they start training or racing. They all to often
end up lacking confidence and under achieving and then leaving the sport
at an early age.
We parents, as well as giving up large amounts of hard earned money to
pay for travel and training costs (see "Financial assistance"
at bottom of page), also give up large amounts of family time by choosing
to send our children to various training / racing camps in holiday periods.
Have you as a parent ever been on one of those training camps, when you
feel that even though you have paid the money, as a parent, you are not
welcome?
We
aim to break these barriers down and provide an environment where young
racers can train for the whole season, monthly, weekly at weekends or
even for odd days if they want. In fact whenever they can fit training
into their busy life. We will provide academic supervision and assistance,
liaise with their schools and provide computer equipment with broadband
Internet connection. We will make it as easy as possible for our students
to continue seamlessly with their school work, as they come and go, throughout
the winter season. They no longer have to miss school work, or fall behind
and stress out about catching up, or even studying for those vital exams.
Our academic staff will work hard to ensure these pressures no longer
exist for the young athletes in our care.
We will provide parents with children at the academy, affordable accommodation
for themselves and the remainder of their other children, so they can
still see their young athletes at holiday periods and watch them train,
whilst also enjoying time on snow.
OUR
MISSION STATEMENT is do all this at the best possible most competitive
price available. We aim to be affordable but still offer the highest quality
training with good quality and affordable accommodation.
How can we achieve this? By long term investment in a well researched
and carefully negotiated business plan. By having your own, not rented
or hotel accommodation and carefully choosing the right location.
Financial assistance
The financial cost of supporting your child or children, in a sport they
enjoy and wish to compete in, can be an enormous struggle. If you have
children who are serious about their sport and compete to a high level,
such as in regional or national squads or teams. There could be an organization
that can help. Please follow the link below to find a list of these organizations.
We will support as best we can applications to these bodies from anyone
attending the academy. Financial Assistance
