Trainees
of school age participating in our academic program will be fully supervised
and supported in the afternoons by our teaching staff, working for around
3 hours, 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) and Saturday mornings from 09:00
to 13:00. The average tutor/student ratio is 4:1 which ensures that each
individual student receives an extraordinary level of individual attention.
All our academic staff are qualified and are experienced in providing
tutorship for key stages 2 to 4, GCSEs, A.S. level and Standard and Higher
grades.
The aim of our academic staff is to ensure students return to their mainline
schools having completed all the work set by their school. This is particularly
difficult for our students if they are also spending much time away at
international races. In this case we will ensure that extra time is allocated
either prior to a race or immediately afterwards to enable the student
to catch up on their set program of work.
Students will also benefit from supervised reading and revision periods,
which they can use to consolidate the work already completed or catch
up with their reading. All studies will be supported by cable Internet
and computer access. The academy this year is providing sky TV to the
schoolroom so that students can also benefit from selected educational
programs transmitted by the BBC schools program
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools The BBC offer a fantastic educational
resource which is a highly valuable teaching aid in which students can
absorb a great deal of knowledge on a particular subject in a shorter
amount of time. We will choose programs for our individual students in
line with their set studies. A full schedule of the educational programs
broadcast by the BBC can be found here http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers
The chalet has a quiet area for study, together with networked computer
terminals, wireless broadband Internet connectivity is available for those
students who have their own laptop computers. All trainees are expected
to complete schoolwork to a high standard, for those students attending
the academy for periods of 4 weeks or over a report is made on each students
progress and attitude at the end of their stay. From the 2006/2007 season
the school reports can be accessed from the online booking system by simply
entering your e-mail address and your password.
We
will incorporate sports studies with the emphasis on fitness and mental
preparation. There will occasionally be visits of cultural interest, to
Salzburg for example. Trainees are expected to keep a school and training
diary throughout their stay, As mentioned earlier school reports will
be available for students attending the academy for 4 weeks or over, this
also applies to training reports, the academy coaching staff will provide
a training report for students attending the academy for 4 weeks or over.
One day a week (Sunday) will be the opportunity to relax completely, as
providing rest periods is an essential part of a growing athletes
program. There is a TV/video in the large lounge of the chalet. On the
day off they can sleep in late, have breakfast when they wish, watch TV
or videos in the lounge and walk into town (if accompanied by a friend).A
reasonable bedtime is expected and enforced but age appropriate!
Trainees will also share in some of the minor household tasks, such as
laying and clearing the table, unloading/loading the dishwasher. They
are also responsible for the tidiness of their rooms. Again tasks are
given according to age. This helps to nourish a team spirit with everyone
joining in and participating in the day to day life at the academy.

In addition to our normal school program, this year we are very pleased
to announce that we will also be working with the worlds number one provider
of on-line educational services - ICS Limited, as well as the UK's
Largest provider of Essay's & Coursework Libraries - Coursework
info.

If you are looking for a private tutor for your child whether primary,
GCSE or A-Level, then Tutor Hunt is an excellent site.
This
move will give to our Junior athletes the flexibility they desperately
need to be able to continue with their education, whilst training Part
time or full time at the academy. They will even be able to continue with
their education whilst away at FIS races. This is particularly important,
as this season our junior FIS racers could easily be away at races for
up to two weeks or more at a time. They will also be able to continue
their studies during the summer months when out at the academy or training
at our summer training camps in Kaprun, Saas-Fee or The Southern hemisphere.
We are also looking into providing ongoing teacher support at our spring,
summer and Autumn camps so that our full time athletes have the help and
support they need all year around.
With these two programs now in place it means a fantastic opportunity
to enhance your academic qualifications and will be extremely valuable
if you fit into the following categories:
- If you are still at school and want to retake GCSE's or A-Levels,
or add an additional one or two to your existing school or college program,
but want to spend more time out in the Alps training.
- You Have left school early in favour of your sport but, would have
liked to have been able to continue with your education as well.
- You are a gap year student, who is taking a year or possibly two
years out, to see where your sport will take you, but would also like
to enhance your qualifications at the same time.
ICS have over 200 courses including leisure courses, GCSE's, A level
and degree courses. They provide comprehensive on-line support with your
own personal tutor, and of course whilst you are at the academy during
the winter months you will also be supported by our own teaching staff
as well.
